On October 21/22, 2023 the Swiss Championships in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined took place in the Swisscom Nordic Arena in Kandersteg. From a sporting and organizational point of view, a successful weekend for the Ski Club Kandersteg.
The ski jumping hills of the Swisscom Nordic Arena provided an ideal stage for Switzerland's best male and female ski jumpers at the end of the summer season. In the elite men's event, Gregor Deschwanden (SC Horw) was able to prove his excellent form this summer season and won with a big lead over Simon Ammann (SSC Toggenburg) and Remo Imhof (SC Einsiedeln). Sina Arnet (Nordic Engelberg) also lived up to her role as favorite in the women's competition and won with two jumps over 100 meters ahead of Rea Kindlimann (SC am Bachtel) and Simone Buff (SC Einsiedeln). The two competitions took place on Saturday evening under spotlight and in front of numerous spectators. Already in the morning the competition of the juniors took place, where Yanick Wasser (SC Einsiedeln) was the winner.
The ski jumping competitions in the U16 categories were hard to beat in terms of excitement. In the girls' competition, Giulia Belz won the silver medal only 0.4 points behind the winner Melinda Schoch from SC am Bachtel. Noah Studer and Mael Niedhart were spurred on by their teammate's good performance and won silver and bronze for SC Kandersteg. In this competition Lars Künzle (SSC Toggenburg) won the gold medal. In the Nordic combined of the elite, Noé Kempf caused a surprise and fought his way to second place in the cross-country run in adverse weather conditions. With the silver medal in focus, Kempf overtook Lars Kindlimann, who is eight years older, on the last lap to win the bronze medal. The new Swiss champion in the Nordic combined was Pascal Müller, who jumped and ran confidently to gold. In Sunday's team competition, the team from the Central Switzerland Ski Association, led by Gregor Deschwanden, won the gold medals in a commanding manner. Behind them, the athletes from the Zurich Ski Association placed second. In a thrilling battle for bronze, the locals from the Bernese Oberland Ski Association (Finn Kempf, Sandro Hauswirth, Mael Niedhart and Noah Studer) narrowly prevailed over the team from French-speaking Part of Switzerland.
